FAQ

1. What Englishunt Offers

What will I be teaching?
As an Englishunt instructor, you will be teaching English to students ranging from young learners to adult teachers. The curriculum will range from free-talking to test-prep instruction. Our curriculum is as varied as our student selection. For those of you selected (or if you elect) to teach in our phone English programs, you will mostly teach college-level adults or higher. Most of these classes are based around test-prep curriculum. A single class, lecture or lesson will range from 10 to 20 minutes.

Is teaching experience required?
Yes and no. All Live Video Class instructors must hold a four-year degree, and many of them require a teaching or substitute teaching certificate (current or expired). Thus, experienced teachers are selected. For our Live Phone Classes, no prior teaching experience is required, but instructors should have at least a two-year degree from an accredited institution. No teaching certificate is required for Live Phone Class instructors. All teachers will go through instructor training. All programs have set curriculum and resources for instructors to use, so lesson preparation time is cut to a minimum.

Is it necessary to be able to speak my students' native language?
Not at all. All instruction and in-class communication will be done exclusively in English. Many of our video classes that have younger students will have an in-class bilingual co-teacher to aid, or team teach with you.

What are the work hours?
This is largely defined by the teacher's availability. We usually seek instructors with at least a two-hour block of availability. However, we offer shifts of varying length from 1 to six hours in duration. Given the time differences between our instructors in the United States and our students in Asia, most teaching hours take place early in the morning or in the evening/late night. Typical peak times for the instructors are 4 am - 11 am, 4 pm - 8 pm, and 11:00 pm to 4:00 am (all listed EST).

2. Applying

I'm interested, when can I start?
Please submit your application HERE. After completing your application, a member of our recruitment team will be in touch with you by phone or email. Upon successful completion of an interview, you will have live training with our trainers. Then, you will be assigned a student list. Usually, our instructors begin teaching upon completion of training and after technology related testing is verified.

Is there an application fee?
There is no application fee.

Does Englishunt welcome tutors from every state?
Yes. We recruit tutors from all 50 states. Currently, we do not hire instructors from outside the United States. This is completely due to the arrangements with our clients. All of our suppliers market their services as having tutors from the United States.

How will I be trained?
All of your training will be conducted using our virtual classroom. You will need a headset and video/web camera for Live Video Classes (cameras are not necessary for the Live Phone Classes). After being trained on class procedures and curriculum, you will be asked to conduct a mock lesson based upon a provided sample lesson plan. After this step, you will be ready to teach your own classes!
3. Benefits & Conditions

What is the pay?
Compensation is determined on a case-by-case basis. Englishunt has different arrangements with our various clients and partners, so individual instructor compensation packages depend on where an instructor is placed within our programs. Most programs have instructors scheduled for blocks of time with hourly payments. There are also opportunities for additional revenue for some instructors. These opportunities include writing and/or editing original EFL/ESL content, reviewing student essay submissions, voice recording/acting, etc. These opportunities are not guaranteed and are given on a merit basis.

Are there opportunities for advancement with Englishunt?
Yes. There are a range of positions within our company ranging from quality control and training to program management. When those positions open, an internal post will be made available for all to see. We prefer to hire from within.

Does Englishunt reimburse instructor expenses?
No. It is the responsibility of the instructor to cover all associated expenses.

Does Englishunt offer direct deposit?
Yes, all payments are made via direct deposit.

Does Englishunt take care of my taxes?
You are hired as an independent contractor; therefore you must take care of your own taxes. No form of withholdings will be deducted. Englishunt sends a 1099 form to all instructors, so that they can easily file their income taxes. Please check with your own tax advisor for more information about form 1099.

Do I need a landline and will I be required to place long distance calls?
All calls are handled by Englishunt's Internet Phone system and do not require a landline.

Does Englishunt provide Instructors with the equipment to perform services?
As an Independent Contractor, you are responsible for providing and maintaining most equipment when contracted to work for Englishunt. However, there will be times, depending on technology advancements, when we may issue to tutors a hard phone. When this happens, all details regarding this roll out will be communicated.

Are calls going to be recorded?
All phone and video classes are recorded. This is done for two reasons: 1) it is a requirement by all our customers that classes with teachers be recorded for review and further learning, and 2) it allows Englishunt managers to use the classes as teaching tools and recognition of a job well done.
